Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya found himself in the middle of the controversy after the customs department sleuths seized his watches that are worth around Rs 5 crores. He was stopped by the officials at the airport while returning from UAE and they took his watches as he is believed to have not possessed the bills of the luxury watches. The news came as a surprise to everyone.
At the time when the news of the customs department confiscated the luxury watches owned by Hardik Pandya due to lack of required bills, the cricketer stepped in straight away and clarified what happened. Taking to Twitter, Hardik Pandya issued a statement on the issue.
Rubbishing the news that the customs department had seized his watches, Hardik Pandya in the statements said it was him who reached out to the customs office at Mumbai airport to list the things he has and paid the amount as per the customs rules. Hardik Pandya also said the cost of the watch is Rs 1.5 crore.
Calling himself a law-abiding citizen of the country, Hardik Pandya said he respects all the agencies and said he had produced all the required documents to prove that he had paid the customs duties and the customs officers are evaluating the amount he paid. The all-rounder said that he is ready to extend his co-operation to the officers in this regard.
'Early on Monday morning, 15th November, on my arrival from Dubai, after picking up my luggage, I voluntarily went to Mumbai airport customs counter to declare the items brought by me and pay the requisite customs duty," Hardik Pandya's statement read.
'I'm a law-abiding citizen and I respect all the government agencies. I've received all the cooperation from the Mumbai customs department and I've assured my full cooperation to them and will provide them with whatever legitimate documents they need to get this matter cleared,' Hardik Pandya added in the statement.
Hardik Pandya, known for his power-hitting nature could not create magic on the field in the recently held T20 World Cup. He failed to record a notable performance in the matches.
