Even if one is right and has the right to freedom of expression, it is important not to ruffle feathers. Hero and Kannada star Upendra has learnt this lesson the hard way.
Post the encounter of the four rapists of veterinarian Disha at Shamshabad near Hyderabad, Upendra has opposed the encounters. He said instead of shooting down people, the justice system should be speeded up and the rapists should be punished as per the provisions of aw. However, his tweets were not liked by the public at large, which was in a vengeful mood and wanted instant justice. The people feel that encounters will instil fear in the minds of the rapists. They feel this will act as a deterrent. So, they began trolling him and slamming him over the social media.
Now seeing the reaction of the people, Upendra is now busy giving clarifications. He said that he only wanted the justice system to be speeded up and the culprits should be given punishment quickly through the due process of law. He said he is all for sternest possible punishment for the rapists. But, killing them in encounters is not advisable, he says. He says that while he is all for killing the rapists, his only objection to the manner in which they were killed. But, the public is in no mood to listen.
