The term unanimous polls which is not familiar with the public and voters in Andhra Pradesh has become the widely used word in the state in the past few months with the tussle between the AP government and SEC over unanimous polls.

Now, a village located in the extreme Northeastern District of Andhra Pradesh, Srikakulam district has made it to the headlines, with Local Body elections being held for the past 57 years.

For the past 57 years, Bhyripuram has been witnessing unanimous polls in Gram Panchayat elections. The local villagers call their village as a king of unanimous elections.

According to the villagers, no elections for the Gram Panchayats were held in the villages in nearly six decades. They stand in unity by selecting the members without polls.

The village has been following the same style of election to select the winner unanimously without elections for ward members and sarpanch as well. Bhyripuram has a population of 1,500.

Coming to the MLA and MP elections, Bhyripuram is like any other constituency. Voters queue up to cast their votes for the candidates, whom they think will be suitable.

But for the Panchayat Elections, the villagers led by the elders meet at a meeting point and elect the winners without going by the polls. The villagers have been holding their unity for nearly six decades.

The family of Pullata Vasudeva Naidu has been serving the village as sarpanch. First Vasudeva Naidu, then his son Dasaradha Ramayya followed by his daughter-in-law served as sarpanch and the list went on.

The unity among the villagers has resulted in the village having required facilities like cement roads, temples, and drinking water facilities for all the households.
