Foreign media even accused the Centre of underreporting Covid cases and deaths.
Leading News Outlet New York Times, based out of the United States carried out a story on the situations in India and contradicted with the numbers stated by the Union Government on Covid related fatalities.
In the article, the outlet used strong words like "Poor record-keeping", "lack of widespread testing" for the devastating situation that is prevailing in India triggered by the second wave of Covid.
The outlet also claimed that quite contradictory to what India said, the country could have around 40 lakh deaths triggered by the dreaded virus. India officially said, over three lakh people succumbed to the virus.
The report was titled 'Just How Big Could India's True Covid Toll Be?'. In order to publish the report, the news outlet consulted experts and conducted a detailed study, New York Times said.
In the study, an expert was quoted as saying that, as hospitals as receiving a flood of income of patients and the rural areas might report deaths, which were not mentioned in the official numbers, the actual count me even more.
