Official Recognition for TRS in Rajya Sabha
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 March 2018 11:05 AM GMTTRS obtained magic figure to form the first government in newly formed Telangana State in 2014. While it won 11 Lok Sabha Seats, One MP each from Congress, TDP and YSR Congress shifted loyalties to take it's strength to 14.
Over 25 MLAs from various Opposition Parties had defected to the Ruling Party in the past four years. These defections and the support of 7 MIM MLAs helped TRS will all the three Rajya Sabha Seats in the recent polls.
TRS had only 3 Rajya Sabha Members until recently and hence it was denied the status of recognized political party in the Upper House. Instead, They were restricted to 'other' category and never got an opportunity to speak for more than three minutes.
But now, TRS tally increased to six and it obtained the recognized party status. While the Ruling Party in Telangana gets representation in BAC which decides how the Upper House should function, Their MPs will be allotted specific time to express views and even gets a floor leader status. Most probably, K Kesava Rao will be appointed as TRS Floor Leader in the Rajya Sabha.
