TRS, MIM join hands, get GHMC mayor elected
By: Tupaki Desk | 11 Feb 2021 7:37 AM GMTFinally, the TRS and the MIM have shed their inhibitions and joined hands to get TRS candidates win the Mayor and deputy Mayor elections in the GHMC. The MIM openly sided with the TRS and voted for its mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates. The BJP can now go round the town to tell people trabout the TRS-MIM collusion.
TRS mayor candidate Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, who is the daughter of senior TRS politician and Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao's daughter Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has won by securing mores votes through raising of hands . TRS candidate Mothe Sridevi became the deputy mayor. Interestingly, the TRS wanted to avoid openly siding with the MIM in the wake of the massive gains made by the BJP in the GHMC elections. The BJP alleged that the TRS was hand in glove with the MIM, a blatantly communal party. But, since there was only one way the TRS can win the elections, it opted for an open friendship with the MIM and got its mayor elected with MIM support.
But, to minimize the damage, the TRS gave the deputy mayor post to a Dalit candidate and not to a Muslim candidate. Thus Baba Fasiuddin, who was deputy mayor till recently, may have to be content being just a corporator. A TRS-MIM alliance is in BJP's favour and would help it in consolidating Hindu votes.
