TRS Now Paints Legislative Council Pink
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 Dec 2021 3:59 AM GMTWith 12 more additions to its kitty, the ruling TRS is in an unassailable position in the legislative council. It now has 36 of the 40 MLCs. Of the remaining four, two are MIM MLCs and they would support the TRS. As a result, the TRS has a massive strength of 38 MLCs.
The only other political party which has an MLC is the Congress Party. The remaining
MLC is an independent who has won from the teachers' constituency. Thus barring the solitary Congress MLC, the council has been completely whitewashed by the ruling TRS. Perhaps no other party enjoys this kind of an absolute majority.
The BJP had one graduate constituency MLC in N Ramachandra Rao. But, Ramachandra Rao had lost to TRS candidate and PV Narasimha Rao's daughter Surabhi Vani Devi. As a result, the BJP has no representation in the council as of now. If sources are to be believed, Ramachandra Rao is now focusing on the national politics and is based in New Delhi.
Now, both the graduate constituency seats and one of the two teachers' constituency seats are won the by ruling TRS. The ruling TRS has 13 MLA constituency seats, six governor quota seats, 12 local body constituency seats in its kitty. Sirikonda Madhusudhanachary, who has won in the governor's quota is now likely to become the chairperson of the legislative council.
