TRS Prepares For a Whitewash of Rajya Sabha
By: Tupaki Desk | 29 Feb 2020 5:22 AM GMTThe ruling TRS is all set to sweep the Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana. With 104 MLA seats in its kitty, the party is eyeing a clean sweep and win all the seven seats. The TRS currently has five out of the 7 seats allotted to Telangana. Of them, one MP, D Srinivas, is keeping away from the party activities and his son D Arvind is a BJP MP. The remaining two seats are falling vacant now and the elections to these two vacancies would be held on March 24. These two seats too will now fall into the TRS kitty.
While outgoing MP KK is eyeing another term, it is unlikely that KCR will nominate him again. KK is a BC and already there are several BCs among the Rajya Sabha MPs. One seat is likely to be given to former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, who had made way for Nama Nageshwara Rao in the Lok Sabha elections. The other seat could go to KCR's daughter Kavitha Kalwakuntla, who is now in political limbo after her shock defeat to D Aravind in Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency. Sources are also saying that SC leader Kadiyam Srihari and former MP and tribal leader Sitaram Naik are also trying to lobby for the second seat.
It remains to be seen what KCR decides. Given the road-roller majority, the victory of the TRS candidates is a foregone conclusion. So, KCR is all set to whitewash the Rajya sabha elections now.
