Today early morning 7.3-magnitude earthquake under the Molucca Sea in eastern Indonesia has triggered a tsunami warning. According to the U.S. Geological Survey(USGS) pointed the quake hit at 154 kilometers northwest of Kota Ternate at a depth of 47 kilometers. It had issued a tsunami warning in Indonesia and alreted Indonesian officials to take proper measures to restrict its damage.

Pacific Tsunami Warning Center quoted "Tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 kilometers. expected to reach Indonesia, the Philippines, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Marshall Islands, and as far away as Japan's Okinawa and Taiwan". The world's largest archipelago location, Indonesia is highly prone to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," . an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin causing high number of earthquakes.
