The issues between the social media giant Twitter and the Union Government continue to increase with both sides being adamant on their respective stand over the new IT Rules introduced by the government.

As a sensational development in the IT Rules row, Twitter restricted Union Minister for Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad from using his official handle for around one hour. The Union Minister announced the same on Twitter.

In his tweets, the IT Minister said he was restricted from using his account for an hour. He termed the actions of the microblogging site as a violation of Rule 4(8) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021.

It has been widely reported that Twitter froze his account for one hour on the grounds of sharing video clips of him from the TV debates. Twitter saw the action as a violation of the copyright act.

"Friends! Something highly peculiar happened today. Twitter denied access to my account for almost an hour on the alleged ground that there was a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of the USA and subsequently they allowed me to access the account," the Minister said in one of his tweets.

What is even more surprising is that a few people with blue ticks like Congressmen Shashi Tharoor said that they had also faced such issues. Mr. Tharror said his account was unlocked after the process.
