Social Networking Site Twitter has at last removed the 140 character limit for Direct Messages (DMs).

For the first time, Twitter made an announcement sharing its plans to lift the character limit in June 2015. Although it did planned to roll out to users in Jult itself, The implementation got delayed by a month and finally everything fell in place now.

Sachin Agarwal who is the product manager at Twitter made an official announcement on this significant change - 'You can now chat on (and on) in a single Direct Message, and likely still have some characters left over'.

Whereas, 140 Character Limit on Public tweets remains unchanged. Even sending and receiving Direct Messages via SMS still remains the same.

Social Networking Sites like Facebook, Linkedin and WhatsApp don't have a character limit for Direct Messages. The growth of direct messaging platforms has prompted Twitter to lift the character-limit.
