UK Court Rejects Mallyas Plea Against Extradition

A UK High Court turned down the appeal made by Vijay Mallya against his extradition to India in connection with duping banks to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore.

In February 2019, UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid approved the Westminster Magistrates Court Order permitting his extradition to face the trail in Indian Courts. Following which, Mallya made a plea to appeal against the extradition. However, High Court Justice William Davis rejected his request.

Vijay Mallya will now have five business days to apply for oral consideration. During the renewal process, Mallya's Counsel and Indian Government's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will present their versions against and in favour of a full hearing.

Mallya escaped to UK way back in March 2016 after he failed to pay the banks thousands of crores loans borrowed over a period of time. He was arrested and released on bail in London in April 2017. He might be extradited to India and face the trail by the end of 2019.
