UK PM says new Covid-19 variant is more deadlier than predicted

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called for a press briefing in London to reveal details on the Coronavirus situations and the effectiveness of the new lineage of the pandemic.
Addressing the media, the Prime Minister said compared to the original strain of the Coronavirus, the SARS-CoV-2 variant is nearly 30 percent more deadly and highly transmissible.
Adding further, Boris Johnson said they have required evidence to prove that, the new variant was detected in London and South East. The new variant has a higher mortality rate.
Drawing comparisons between the two variants, the Prime Minister said out of the 1,000 men in their 60s who come in contact with the new 13-14 people would lose their lives, while 10 men would lose their lives to the old variant.
In its survey, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Imperial College London has found out that compared to the previous strain, the mortality is 29% to 35% in the new variant.
