The new strain of Coronavirus lineage detected in the United Kingdom is ringing danger bells in Andhra Pradesh, after an Anglo-Indian who recently returned from Britain has tested positive for the new variant.

Going into detail, an Anglo-Indian who hails from Rajahmundry has returned from the United Kingdom, last week. She reached Delhi Airport from Britain. However, instead of going to a quarantine facility as per the rules, the woman gave a split to the officials and fled from there.

From Delhi, she boarded Delhi-Visakhapatnam special train and reached the East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh to reach her home. She was found positive for the new strain of the virus.

Andhra Pradesh Health commissioner Katamaneni Bhaskar confirmed that Mary Winfred Ann Parrie, who works as a teacher at a private school in Rajahmundry was found positive for the new strain.

Her samples were sent to the Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), for genome sequencing. The test reports came back positive for the Britain strain of Covid-19.

However, it is said that, so far 12 UK returnees have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. Out of them, the Anglo-Indian is the only person to come in contact with the Britain strain of Covid-19.

As a safety measure, the authorities have tested the lady's son and another person who met her after she reached her home. Thankfully, both of them have tested negative for the virus.
