UN expresses condolences to the bereaved families of SII incident victims

In a shocking incident, a massive fire broke out in an under-construction building on the premises of the Pune Serum Institute of India on Thursday. The authorities swung into action and called the Pune Fire brigade for the rescue operations.

The United Nations has responded to the Serum fire accident. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed sorrow over the incident and condoled the deaths of five victims who lost their lives in the incident.

Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephen Dujarric has also responded to the shocking incident and hoped that an investigation will be launched to know the exact reason behind the fire accident.

Pune-based Serum Institute of India is one of the two Indian pharma companies which is supplying vaccines in India to cure the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The incident raised many questions about the vaccine supply in the country from the company.

Keeping an end to all the speculations, SII CEO Adarsh Poonawala said the vaccine supply would not get hampered by the fire accident.

The Serum Institute of India expressed deep sorrow on the fire mishap and announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to each family.
