Union Government cannot go forward with Vizag steel privatisation for 4 weeks!
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 April 2021 12:09 PM GMTThe Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is batting a blind eye towards the ongoing protests by the employees of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and the Andhra Pradesh government against the privatisation of the plant and stood strong on its decision.
As a major sigh of relief for the people of Vizag city and Andhra Pradesh, the Union Government cannot go forward in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant privatisation for not less than four weeks.
Former CBI joint director V V Lakshminarayana has moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court in this regard earlier last month. The High Court has started the hearing process of the petition filed by Lakshminarayana.
Hearing the petition, the Andhra Pradesh High Court served notices to the Union Government over the privatisation row to file a counter-affidavit and adjourned the next hearing of the case for four weeks.
Senior advocates Adinarayana and Y Balaji appeared before the Andhra Pradesh High Court for the hearing and represented Lakshminaryana in the court. The duo has earlier filed the PIL in this regard.
In the sensational public interest litigation (PIL), the EX CBI joint Director termed the move to privatise the historic Vizag Steel Plant violates the rights of people, who sacrificed their lands for the plant.
In the PIL, Lakshminarayana listed out the details of the land given by the farmers to set up a steel plant and how the farmers were assured to provide jobs from the families that gave lands.
Stating that more than 7,000 families gave lands for the Vizag Steel Plant is yet to be provided with jobs as part f the assurance, the former CBI JD said, the Union Government hindered the hopes of these families.
