Union Minister says around 8,848 cases of Black Fungus were reported in India

When India was happy that new Covid cases and fatalities have been following a downward trend, the cases of mucormycosis or Black Fungus, found in recovered Coronavirus patients are increasing rapidly.
In a shocking development, Union Minister Sadananda Gowda said, more than 8,800 people across the country were Affected By Black Fungus.
In a tweet, the Union Minister went on to say that, following the rise in Black Fungus cases in the country, the centre has supplied more than 23,000 extra vials of medicines that treat the fungus was sent to the states.
A total of 23,680 additional vials of Amphotericin- B have been allocated to the States and Union Territories that are severely affected by the Black Fungus on Saturday. The vials were allocated on the grounds of cases reported in States and Union Territories, the Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers said.
The document shared by the Union Minister said Gujarat state that reported the highest number of infections with 2,281 cases will receive 5,800 vials, the highest, followed by Maharashtra(5,090 vials), Andhra Pradesh(2,300 vials), and Telangana(890 vials).
'After a detailed review of rising no. of cases of #Mucormycosis in various states, a total of 23680 additional vials of #Amphotericin- B have been allocated to all States/UTs today.The Allocation has been made based on total no. of patients which is approx. 8848 across country,' the Union Minister tweeted.
With the cases of Black Fungus increasing rapidly, a few states like Telangana, Rajasthan, and others have notified the fungus under the Epidemic Diseases Act and ramped up the bed facilities and other facilities to treat the patients.
