University kicks up controversy over zoom meet on BJP's defeat in Bengal

The BJP is defeated fair and square in West Bengal. The BJP leaders must be nursing their wounds after the poll debacle. But, a venerated university in West Bengal has decided to discuss the 'Whitewash of the BJP in West Bengal' through virtual mode and roped in an expert from Centre For Developing Socieites (CSDS) of Delhi, known for its anti-BJP views to speak on it.
Needless to say, this has led to a furore in West Bengal. The Vishwa Bharathi University, founded by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, has scheduled this programme for May 18 and uploaded the invite on the Vishwa Bharathi website. It also gave the zoom link for the meeting. Several intellectuals and commentators slammed the university for the choice of an avowedly political topic. They felt it was too politically loaded and was not needed at this juncture. Tagore's descendent Surpiyo Tagore slammed the vice chancellor for organising such a programme.
Shocked by the negative publicity, the university authorities hurriedly removed the invite from the website. The BjP leaders blamed the vice chancellor for this gaffe and said he had done such things even in the past.
