Two pharma companies Bharat BioTech and Serum Institute of India based in pearl city and Pune respectively, have manufactured the anti-Covid vaccines, which are being used to vaccinate the people in the Country. However, the vaccine doses developed by the two pharma companies were not sufficient in vaccinating the massive population, resulting in a shortage of vaccines.

As a short in the arm in the vaccination drive, US-based Pharma giant Pfizer has offered to supply as many as 5 crore vaccine doses and the vaccine doses are expected to reach India in this year itself, media reports claimed.

However, the reports claimed that, in order to supply the vaccine doses, the Pharma giant wants some relaxation in the regulations. Indemnification is one of the relaxation the Pharma giant needs reportedly.

Talking about Pfizer, the Pharma company said, it cannot supply five crore vaccine doses at once. Per month, it can supply one crore vaccines starting from July. While one crore doses could be supplied on July 1st this year, the remaining doses would be supplied by August 2(one Crore), September( 2 Crore) and October(One Crore), reports claimed.

On the flip side, another US-based Pharma giant Moderna is also gearing up to bring the single-dose Covid vaccine to India and the launch is likely to happen next year. For this, the Pharma giant is in talks with leaders firms like Cipla and others for a suitable partner.

The chances of Pfizer vaccines reaching India are more as Moderna and Johnson & Johnson have already informed the Indian government that they don't have extra vaccine doses to supply for India.

To meet the vaccine needs, the Indian Government gave its nod for the Russian-made Sputnik V for emergency use in India. Unlike the Made In India vaccines, the Russian vaccine is used to treat a smaller portion of people.

Earlier this week, Roche India and Cipla announced that Antibody Cocktail that was used to cure former US President Donald Trump was launched in India. The vaccine was priced at Rs ₹59,750 per dose.

It has to be noted that more than 100 countries across the globe have signed the indemnification document of Pfizer. The countries include the US too. Citing the same, the Pharma company reportedly wants India to do the same.
