US Citizenship For 46100 Indians In An Year

As many as 46,100 Indians obtained US Citizenship in the year 2016, making them second largest. Mexicans continue to hold the Top Position.
In the fiscal year 2016 (October 1st, 2015 to September 30th, 2016), US Government sanctioned citizenship to 7.53 lakh as per US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Indians accounted 6 percent of the total number of citizenships granted last year.
US Government made rules stricter for Immigrants aspiring for Citizenship. This resulted in a decline in the number of Citizenships granted in the recent years. About 7.08 lakh applicants are yet to receive Citizenship.
Tougher H-1B Visa norms led to the increase in number of applications seeking Citizenship. While 7.83 lakh applications were filed in 2015, About 9.72 lakh applications (rise of 24 percent) were moved in 2016.
