The entire world was closely watching the developments related to the four immigration reform proposals in the US Senate on Thursday. If they could have passed, they would have benefited 1.8 million young migrants who were brought to the country illegally as children(Dreamers) and thousands of skilled IT professionals.

One of the bills backed by Trump administration is awarding citizenship to the 1.8 million dreamers in exchange for USD250 billion for the construction of a wall along the Mexican border. The bill was lost by 39-60 votes. This bill supported by The White House would have also curbed family-based immigration and diversity lottery visa.

The result of the failure of the bill is that the fate of Dreamers would become uncertain. It is known that Trump administration scrapped the Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and it has to become a legislation before March 5 otherwise 700,000 Dreamers and other 1.1 million who were eligible but didn't sign DACA could face deportation.

On the other hand, a prominent bill which would have immensely benefited Indian immigrants Removing Per-country caps on the issuance of Green Cards also failed. While speaking in Senate, Congressman Kevin Yoder said that per-country caps on green cards for highly skilled H-1B immigrants is unfair and it discriminates against immigrants from a few countries, India in particular. He said that the caps have created a huge backlog as much as 70 years for Indian immigrants to realize their dream of citizenship.
