EC in Favour Of Defections Into TRS?
By: Tupaki Desk | 24 March 2018 5:51 AM GMTThe recently concluded Rajya Sabha Polls give an impression that rules have been conveniently used to favour the Ruling Party in Telangana. Manner in which Election Commission Authorities handled cross-voting and the vote of an Independent Legislator is drawing criticism.
Telangana Congress Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy said as many as seven party MLAs (Redya Naik, Koram Kanakaiah, Ajay Kumar, Vithal Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, Bhaskar Rao and Ch Rammohan Reddy) voted in favour of TRS by violating the whip. All the defected MLAs showed their voting slips to Congress Polling Agent Kantha Rao. Quickly, The Agent placed a written complaint with Returning Officer and Legislature Secretary seeking rejection of their votes. Whereas, The Returning Officer didn't bother to take any action.
Much to the annoyment of Main Opposition, Officials appointed by Election Commission turned down the vote of Independent MLA D Madhava Reddy in favour of Congress. Can EC explain why Defected MLAs votes were permitted and why not that of an Independent MLA? Congress Party demanded the disqualification of seven MLAs who violated the party whip to favour the ruling party in Rajya Sabha Polls.
