Venkanna, Dattanna in Presidential race?
By: Tupaki Desk | 13 March 2022 3:08 AM GMTIs the BJP seriously mulling making a South Indian the president of the country? Is it planning to have a south Indian as the president as part of its strategy of penetrating into South India? The BJP has enough numbers to get its nominee elected as the president.
If highly placed sources are to be believed, the BJP is seriously considering making vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu as the president of the country. Venkaiah is an experienced politician who is also a polyglot.
His exposure to Delhi and his connections as the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha will stand him in good stead, feels the BJP.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya's name too is figuring quite prominently for the top post. Sources say that the BJP is already holding consultations with friendly parties such as the Biju Janata Dal and the YSRCP. A final call would soon be taken, according to sources.
The total electoral college for the presidential elections is 10,98,903 votes. The electoral college comprises 776 MP votes and 4120 MLA seats. Each MP seat has a value of 708 votes.
With its absolute majority in Lok Sabha and dominant position in Rajya Sabha, the BJP will get the maximum number of votes. It now has slightly less than 2000 MLAs on its side.
The value of the MLA's vote varies from state to state. But with big states like UP, Bihar, MP, Assam, Gujarat and Karnataka in its kitty, the value of the MLA vote would be on the higher side for the BJP. It is the largest party in Maharashtra and the second largest party in West Bengal, Rajasthan and Odisha.
