BJP Leadership Today announced that Gujarat-unit Party President Vijay Rupani will be the new chief minister of the state. The saffron party also appointed Nitin Patel as Deputy CM of Gujarat.

Few hours before the official announcement, Nitin Patel was the frontrunner to be the successor of outgoing CM Anandiben Patel. Mr.Patel was found distributing sweets at his residence. He even spoke to media promising a solution for Patidars reservation remand or other issues. To his shock, There was a turnaround during the crucial party meeting held on Friday afternoon.

During the meeting, A heated argument took place between BJP National President Amit Shah and Outgoing CM Anandiben Patel. While Amit Shah wanted Vijay Rupani as next CM, Anandiben objected citing Vijay Rupani is a first-time MLA and don't have Administrative experience. The issue was sorted only after Organising Secretary V Satish made a phone call to PM Narendra Modi.

Vijay Rupani began his political career as a student activist close associated with RSS Student-wing ABVP. He was arrested and sent to jail during the Emergency. He served as Mayor of Rajkot and Minister in Modi's cabinet in the past. Currently, He is representing Rajkot West Assembly Segment. Today, He was promoted as Chief Minister due to the good rapport he have with Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
