Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a man with a lot of surprises. He will always surprise others with his decisions. The way he announced his retirement from Test cricket and international cricket falls in the same lines. Even his teammates had no idea about this until he handed over his baton to Run Machine Virat Kohli.

Similarly, Mahendra Singh Dhoni had announced his decision to step down as the skipper of Chennai Super Kings and he had picked 'Rock Star' Ravindra Jadeja as his successor.

Putting an end to his era as the leader of the CSK team, Dhoni will play the forthcoming season as a player while Jadeja leads the team. Since its inception, Dhoni has been leading the team and he made his side one of the best sides in the IPL.

The cricket fraternity came forward to react to the news. Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who enjoys a good rapport with Dhoni paid a tribute to the legendary player.

"Legendary captaincy tenure in yellow skip. A chapter fans will never forget. Respect always," Kohli said in his tweet.

On many occasions, Virat Kohli said that he idolizes Dhoni a lot and even credited Dhoni for his support during the transition period. When Virat Kohli was made the skipper as Dhoni's replacement, Dhoni helped him a lot by giving him valuable suggestions and inputs.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been the soul and heart of the Chennai Super Kings team. Under his captaincy, CSK had won four titles, the second-highest in the tournament only after Mumbai Indians. CSK had ended up as runner-ups in the finals for as many as five times. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the successful captains in the IPL. He is among the top five successful skippers.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni had established himself as one of the most successful captains to have ever led India. He has a unique record of winning all three ICC trophies. Starting with the inaugural ICC T20 Trophy, he lifted the 2011 WC and Champions Trophy in 2013 as a skipper. After he bid goodbye to the game, India failed to win a single ICC trophy.
