Visakhapatnam is India's Houston: Union Minister
By: Tupaki Desk | 6 Aug 2017 9:34 AM GMTLok Sabha approved the Bill to establish the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) in Andhra Pradesh. The project is estimated to cost Rs 650 crore.
Currently, Petroleum Institute is functioning in the space allotted in Andhra University. Admission for the first batch of students has been completed.
Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan told Parliament that not only AP & India but the World is going to get benefitted with advanced research and high-quality education provided in the Petroleum Institute. He opined Visakha is the apt place to set such as institute as it's like Houston in US. Mr. Pradhan said Krishna-Godavari basin have more resources than the Mumbai Gas Field.
AP Government allotted 200 acres land for Petroleum Institute. Most importantly, It will be mentored by IIT Kharagpur.
