Vizag suddenly becomes the talk of the state

Suddenly, the bustling city of North Andhra, Visakhapatnam, is in the news. Despite being the hub of industries, education, commerce and a major junction point, Vizag has always been relegated to the side lines. But,for the first ever time, this 125-year-old cosmopolitan city is in the news for all the right reasons.
Interestingly, the city is in the news for being considered as the likely capital of Andhra Pradesh. Interestingly, those opposing Vizag as the capital were the first ones to hold the cabinet meeting in the very same city. In 2014, Chandrababu Naidu held his first cabinet meeting in Vizag. A signature campaign in favour of Vizag too was planned. But, later, he chose to shift the capital to Amaravati. It is an open secret that this was done to benefit the TDP leaders.
The hopes of Vizagaites were rekindled when YS Jagan began talking about it. The YSRCP too has taken up the issue and is trying to mobilise support for Vizag as the capital city. Senior ministers like Dharmana Prasada Rao have even said that Vizag is best suited to be the capital of the state. He even argued that the capital need not be at the centre of the country. Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad were not at the centre of the respective geographies.
Now support is growing for Vizag as the capital. Intellectuals, social leaders, influencers and politicians are rooting for Vizag as the capital of the state. Many feel that Vizag could be the growth engine to catapult the state financially and monetarily. As a result, Vizag is finding itself at the centre of the debate and is emerging as the to-go place for the planners and pubic leaders.
