During the press conference convened at Amritsar Airport, Union Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh was asked about the compensation Centre would offer for the families of the deceased. Quickly, He replied: 'Offering compensation isn't like distributing biscuits..this is about lives of people. There is nothing in my pocket. How could I make such an announcement'.
When quizzed about the jobs for family members of the deceased workers, Mr.Singh commented: 'It's not a game of football'. Insensitive remarks from the Union Minister drew sharp criticism.
40 Indians Workers were kidnapped by ISIS in June 2014. While one of them escaped posing as a Bangladeshi, All the others were killed brutally. 38 Bodies were identified with DNA Test. Whereas, There is still no clarity on the DNA results of one of the victims. 27 out of 38 people are from Punjab. While four of them are from Himachal Pradesh, Others hail from Bihar and West Bengal. Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the families of 27 Punjabis.
