VVPAT Slips Counting Delays Election Results
X
Sometime ago, Opposition Parties in the country moved the court seeking counting of 50 percent of VVPAT Slips. However, The Court turned down the appeal but passed an order directing Election Commission to count VVPATs linked to 5 EVMs in Assembly Segments and 35 EVMs in Lok Sabha Segments.

Election Commission will be declaring results only after counting the VVPAT Slips. Counting of VVPAT Slips begin after the finalising the tally based on EVMs. At least 2 hours time has to be spent to count VVPAT Slips in each constituency. This process happens in the presence of Counting Officers and Counting Agents.

Public assumed polling trends could be known by 11 AM on May 23rd. However, Counting of VVPAT Slips delays the election results by few hours. People will have to wait at least until 1 PM to get a clarity on which party is likely to emerge victorious.

Counting of VVPATs must be welcomed as it ensures more accuracy. Political Parties which are making a hue & cry will have nothing to complain if the results are announced after counting VVPAT Slips.
