West Bengal: BJP fields a maid who is active in the party in forthcoming polls

A woman who has been working as a maid earning Rs 2,500 per month. However, her position didn't stop her from being politically active for the past five years. Her interest in politics has paid off as she was offered a party ticket.
Going into details, Kalita Majhi, who earns Rs 2,500 per month has been actively involved in the party activities of the BJP for five years. As a bid to acknowledge her active participation, the West Bengal wing of BJP gave her a ticket.
She was given a BJP ticket from the Ausgram constituency in the Purba Burdwan district. To take part in the campaign activities and contest the elections, she took a month break from her work.
Talking about the opportunity, Kalita Majhi said she never thought of such a big opportunity landing on her hands. My focus is now on the campaign activities. My employers have also encouraged me and wished me to win the elections, she said.
"My work as a maid gives me an opportunity to have a better understanding of the issues faced by the common man. I also know the issues faced by the poor families in the region. I will take care of the development works if I win the elections," Majhi said.
