What's Behind Shivraj Singh Chouhan's Pilgrimage?
By: Tupaki Desk | 30 Jun 2020 7:11 AM GMTMadhya Pradesh is battling one of the worst crises. It's fighting Covid, which is causing many deaths and leaving many hospitalised or quarantined. The Cabinet is not fully constituted and several key ministries are without ministers. Yet. Shivraj Singh Chouhan could take out time for a long pilgrimage. So, what's cooking? Why is the CM away from the state for such a long time?
Insiders say that Shivraj Singh Chouhan is not as powerful as he used to be. Earlier, he had complete majority and could dictate terms. This time, he is dependent on Jyotiraditya Scindia and even within the BJP, there are voices which are opposing him. For instance, state BJP president Narottam Jha is an out-and-out Amit Shah man and is not listening to the CM. Similarly, the Home Minister is also quite powerful and is calling the shots. As a result, Shivraj Singh has no decisive power on hands.
It is because of this that a frustrated CM is on a pilgrimage. Consider this. He spent a night in Shamshabad ashram of Chinna Jeeyar and then went to Tirupati, thence to Mysore. Which CM can spend so much time outside his state?
