Whats The Reason Behind BJPs Loss In Jharkhand?

In a much embarrassment to BJP, the party faced a horrible loss in the Jharkhand Assembly polls. The party was limited to just 28 seats in the state. The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance got 50 seats surprisingly and is all set to form the government.

If we look at the history of Jharkhand, since the state was formed carving out from Bihar, BJP holds a stronghold there. With the Namo fever in the country, BJP became more strong in the state. At the time of polls after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had an ally with All Jharkhand Student Union(ASJU) and won majority seats.

Jharkhand is home to almost 90 percent of Tribals. Quite interestingly, BJP made non-tribal Raghubar Das as CM as a daring move. The party won 11 MP seats out of 15 in Jharkhand with almost 50 percent of vote share. This made the party go to elections without any allies.

Before the elections, both the parties had a war of words on the seat-sharing and went to elections separately. But could not successfully make a mark in the elections.

The political circles stated that Raghubar Das's government trying to emend the 'Chotanagpur tenancy act' and 'Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act' resulted in a huge loss in the assembly polls. Hemant Soren who revolted against the efforts to amend these acts gained a hero image and won the elections.
