Whatsapp outage throws Munugode election campaign out of gear

The political leaders, who are in the thick of a key electoral battle in Munugode, were badly hit by the world-wide WhatsApp outage. The leaders found themselves totally disconnected with their bosses who were continuously monitoring the campaign. It took a long time for them to realise that the WhatsApp went kaput leaving them disconnected and directionless.
The TRS, which developed a minute-to-minute monitoring system to track the campaign, was the worst hit. The leaders monitoring the campaign could not get in touch with their workers on the ground. At the same time, those working on the field failed to upload pictures and other details as asked by their bosses.
Even otherwise, the mobile signals are quite weak in some parts of Munugode assembly constituency. As a result, making direct mobile calls is quite difficult in these parts. The best way therefore was to contact one another through Whatsapp. With Whatsapp going out of service for over two years, everything went for a toss in Munugode.
Even the BJP leadership too heavily depended on social media, especially WhatsApp, to connect with the ground workers. Even they lost their connection with the happenings on the ground due to the outage. Thus, for some two to three hours, chaos reigned supreme in Munugode.
