Emergency announced by Indira Gandhi on June 25th, 1975 helped Narendra Modi emerge as a popular leader from just being a pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh. He became quite popular in the RSS Circles with the manner in which arrest has been evaded by him, meetings were planned and leaders were shifted from one place to another.

Indira Gandhi hadn't only banned RSS but also sent its leaders & activists behind the bars during the Emergency. Modi was just 25-Years-Old at that time. He disguised himself as Sardar Narendra Singh to avoid facing jail term.

As per a report, Modi took banned literature to Delhi and met Jan Sangh Leaders in Jail. He also posed as a sanyasi and shifted top brass leaders like George Fernandes to safe locations. He worked as a mediator between RSS Top Leaders and circulated banned literature. Apart from disguising, He had even changed his name to Prakash.

Modi improved his stature as RSS Leader during the Emergency. Since then, He began building statewide network by improving his supporters. He attained the tag 'Thinking Man' in the RSS Circles.

On the eve of 43rd Anniversary of Emergency, Modi told India remembers it as a dark period. He recalled how several BJP Leaders were sentenced to prison and power was misused.
