Which Route Will Jagan Take?
By: Tupaki Desk | 25 Jan 2020 4:31 AM GMTWill there be an exodus from the TDP in the AP legislative council? This question is being hotly debated int he political circles in Andhra Pradesh. With the TDP adopting an obstructionist attitude by blocking key legislations in the council using the brute majority, there appear to be only two options before the ruling YSRCP. First is to abolish the legislative council by passing a resolution in the AP Assembly and getting it approved by Parliament. This is the route that NTR had taken during the 1980s when the Congress played spoilspot in the council. But, in NTR's case, it took nearly two years for him to get Parliament'.
The second option is to bring down the majority of the TDP in the council by both making TDP MLCs resign from the council and by dividing a section of the TDP MLCs to merge them into the YSRCP. Those who resign could be renominated to the council on YSRCP ticket. If a required number merges into the party, TDP would lose its majority. By winning the seats that fall vacant due to resignations, the YSRCP can increase its strength in the council.
Already, the YSRCP has managed one resignations, two abstentions and two cross votes in the council during the voting on the three capital bill. All it needs is another 10 MLCs. Let's watch Jagan's next moves.
