Even after over one and a half years of its emergence, the deadly Coronavirus is showing its dominance in the world. Several countries in the world are still fearing Covid and struggling to fight the virus spread. The emergence of new variants is making the fight against the virus even more complicated.

At a time when the world is finding it difficult to fight the Delta variant and Delta plus variants, the global health agency World Health Organization(WHO) warned about a new variant "Mu" that was detected in Colombia in January. Mu is also known as B.1.621. The WHO called the variant a variant of interest.

What's even more concerning is that the WHO had warned that the variant might report mutations and the variant is likely to have resistance against the vaccines that are in usage to beat the deadly pandemic.

However, the WHO said that it is monitoring the new variant. Other than the Mu variant, the WHO had identified four variants of the novel Coronavirus as the variant of concerns. Four variants including Delta and Delta plus were identified as the variant of concern.

The World Health Organization(WHO) said the mutations of Covid show an impact on the pace of the virus spread and the severity of the virus. The mutations offer resistance to the anti-coronavirus vaccines.

The Mu variant was detected in Colombia first in January this year. Later, the variant was detected in Europe and a few South American Countries as well.

On the other hand, a new variant of Covid, C.1.2, also known as South African C.1.2 was detected in South Africa. The new variant is also said to have resistance against the virus doses. So far, the new variant was detected in a few African and Asia countries reportedly.

Expressing their concerns over the new variant, the researchers in South Africa said, the new variant comes with a high transmission rate along with the ability to escape the protection provided by the Coronavirus vaccine doses. The researchers said that they are currently studying the new variant to see if the variant gets weaker in the coming days or if it gets even stronger.
