Whole of Puducherry is now trying to know Who Gollapalli Srinivas Ashok is. This young man has created history by defeating Chief Ministerial candidate and former CM N R Rangasamy. NR as Rangasamy is known is a popular leader, which a huge support base. Gollapalli Srinivas Ashok, despite being a political greenhorn, managed to trounce him by over 650 votes in Yanam. Hence, he has become the talk of the town.
What is more important is that Srinivas Ashok fought the elections as an independent and the Congress has supported him from outside. Yanam assembly constituency has just over 33000 votes.
Puducherry is an interesting state. It has four units. Puducherry and Karaikal are in Tamil Nadu. Mahe is in Kerala and Yanam in AP. Rangasamy had contested from two places. One of them is Yanam. Former minister Malladi Krishna Rao worked hard for his victory. But, Gollapalli Srinivas Ashok's father is very popular in Yanam region. Even Srinivas Ashok's speeches were very well received. He struck a chord in the hearts and minds of the Yanam voters. So, Srinivas Ashok managed to defeat Rengasamy.
Now everyone is talking about him for his marvellous feat. However, Rengasamy had won from another constituency and is well on his way to become the CM of Puducherry for another term.
