Why Bihar Wants To Study South Korea?

Bihar now wants to study South Korea. Why? It's not about how to control Corona. It's not even about how to maintain social distancing. It's about how to conduct elections in times of Corona. South Korea is perhaps the only country in the world to conduct elections during the Corona crisis. In fact, these were not ordinary bypolls. The elections were held to the 300 seats in the national assembly. By any standards, it was a massive exercise and was held in this month.
The Bihar state will be the first assembly to go to polls after Corona. The assembly elections would be held in the second part of the year and thus, a lot of issues like social distancing while campaigning, voting and others are involved. The candidates will have to touch the EVMs and with the mass touching, there could be a spread of Corona. So, the Bihar election commission officials are now trying to explore and examine how South Korea conducted the elections. The Bihar state election commission has already constituted a team of officials to study the South Korean model.
The committee will study not just the modus operandi and will suggest possible changes that needed to be made in the election system in view of corona. The officials are now trying to contact the South Korean officials to understand how they managed to undertake such a huge exercise even while following the quarantine and social distancing.
