Why BJP wants Jana Sena to contest from Badvel?

The poll bugle has sounded in Budvel, where a bypoll would be held for the assembly constituency. The notification would be issued on Friday and the nominations would be accepted till October 8. So far, both the TDP and the YSRCP have announced their candidates . While the TDP has announced Obulapuram Rajasekhar as its candidate, the YSRCP has announced that Dasari Sudha, wife of Dr Venkata Subbaiah's whose death has necessitated the bypolls, as its candidate.

The BJP-Jana Sena alliance is yet to announce its candidate. Already the leaders of both the parties have met and discussed the issue. Somu Veerraju and Nadendla Manohar held a meeting and decided to contest the election to send positive signals that all is well between the two alliance partners. Interestingly, the BJP is said to be of the opinion that Jana Sena should put up its candidate and this time the BJP would back them. In Tirupati bypolls, the BJP had put up its candidate, while the Jana Sena supported it.

In 2019, YSRCP's Venkata Subbaiah had won by over 44000 votes against TDP's Rajasekhar. The BJP and the Jana Sena had contested separately. As part of the alliance, the Jana Sena gave the ticket to the BSP. The BSP candidate got just 1321 votes. The BJP got just 735 votes. In fact, an independent candidate got 2883 votes and the NOTA got more votes than both the BSP and the BJP. There is nothing to show that the situation has improved this time.

Sources say the BJP plan is to show the Jana Sena its place. After the election results are out, the BJP can always prove that the Jana Sena is not as strong as it believes. The results can mellow down the Jana Sena, the BJP feels.
