Why Did Ghulam Nabi Azad Cancel His Hyderabad visit?
X
Congress Party's key leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was to visit Hyderabad on September 12. He had to attend a minority convention in Sangareddy and had to meet the party leaders to finetune the strategy. Also several key joining were planned. Among them were DS, Konda Surekha, Konda Murali. It was planned as a big event. Also, the formal announcement of the Maha Kutami was to be made in Ghulam Nabi Azad's presence.

But, Azad postponed his tour at the last minute. The rumour mill is abuzz about the possible reasons for the cancellation of the visit. Some say that Ghulam Nabi Azad had put off his visit because of the Kondagattu tragedy. High profile joinings at a time when there is shock over the Kondagattu mishap could prove counter-productive, they argue. Hence, he had postponed the tour, they point out.

But, by visiting Hyderabad and meeting Kondagattu bus mishap victims, Azad could have actually scored points. KCR had not visited the tragedy site or consoled the victims even through this was the worst mishap in the history of road transport.

The real reason, according to those in the know, the reason for the cancellation of the tour was Jagga Reddy's arrest. Jagga Reddy was the key man for the proposed minority conclave at Sangareddy. With the arrest of the prime mover, the whole programme was in jeopardy. Azad did not want to be seen as defending a passport offender at the meet or ignore him altogether while in Sangareddy, which is Reddy’s home burrough. So, he though cancelling his visit to Telangana was the best thing to do.
