Why did Venkaiah Naidu become teary-eyed?
By: Tupaki Desk | 11 Aug 2021 10:51 AM GMTVeteran parliamentarian and vice-president of India MVenkaiah Naidu became emotional and was moved to tears over the despicable conduct of the Opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha the other day. The unreasonable attitude of the Opposition has caused immense pain to the vice-president, who is also the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha.
For 11 days in a row, the house could not transact any business. Repeated adjournments and disruptions became the order of the day. On Tuesday, the opposition members went to the extreme by standing atop benches and hurling things at the chair. A visibly hurt Venkaiah reminded that the Rajya sabha was a temple of democracy and that the opposition has crossed all limits by their indecent actions.
Venkaiah said that he had spent sleepless nights over the disruptive behaviour of the Opposition members. He added that this was an insult to the temple of democracy. He said the members should realize that they were wasting public money. Also, they should realize that they were insulting the democratic norms and traditions.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who too was deeply upset by the turn of events, demanded a strong action against those MPs who resorted to the improper behavior. In Lok Sabha too, Speaker Om Birla took exception to the behavior of the opposition and said that only 22 percent of the session was productive. The remaining period was washed away.
