Why is Chandrababu watching JP's moves with alarm?
By: Tupaki Desk | 18 Oct 2022 4:12 AM GMTIs the former bureaucrat-turned-social activist-turned politician Jayaprakash Narayan of the Lok Satta fame planning to contest the elections again? Has the election bug bitten him once more? Sources in the know say that JP is actively considering contesting elections in 2024. So, he is said to be planning his moves carefully.
But there is said to be a key change in his strategy this time. The last time he contested and won was from Kukatpalli assembly constituency in Telangana. Now, he apparently wants to contest from Andhra Pradesh this time around. He is said to be nurturing a Lok Sabha constituency and wants to enter the national arena this time. He has already begun holding small preparatory meetings with this end in view, say sources.
One party that is watching JP's moves with alarm is the opposition TDP. The party feels that JP's entry will only harm its chances as he will eat into the anti-YSRCP votes. The party sources say that JP had done the same thing in the 2009 elections. In fact, soon after the 2009 electoral defeat, Chandrababu Naidu specifically blamed Lok Satta for the party's defeat.
JP, who is known to back the BJP government's policies at the Centre and strongly root for liberalist economic policies, is being seen as a BJP ploy to divide anti-YSRCP votes in the 2024 elections. This could ultimately harm the TDP, which is making a strong bid to come back to power after its 2019 defeat in the assembly elections.
