Why is Congress digital membership campaign failing to take off?

The much-touted and ambitious digital membership campaign that the Congress Party has launched in Telangana is turning out to be a non-starter. The lukewarm attitude of the Congress cadre to online membership and the indifference of the leaders is turning this into a failure. The leaders at the district are not showing interest in the online membership.

The digital membership of the Congress Party began on December 9, the birthday of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi. The project was taken up in Telangana on a pilot basis. But the scheme is running at a snail's pace in several districts of the state. The party has fixed a target of 30000 online members for each assembly constituency. Thus, in the five assembly segments of Nizamabad district, as many as 1.5 lakh memberships should have been made online. However till now, only 15000 online memberships have been enrolled in the whole district.

Sources say that the party cadre and the leaders are lukewarm towards the digital campaign. Also, intense groupism is ensuring that there is no promotion of the online membership drive. As a result, the membership is yet to pick momentum.

In case of Nizamabad, there is no enthusiasm even after the appointment of former MP Madhu Yashki Goud as the campaign committee chairperson. Even TPCC chief Revanth Reddy has not focused on the digital membership. Several senior leaders of the party are keeping away from the digital membership campaign.
