Why Is Telangana Government Praying To Wind God?
By: Tupaki Desk | 29 May 2020 8:31 AM GMTThe officials in Telangana are praying to the wind gods to be kind to the state. The reason? If the winds are not favourable, they might drive the swarms of locusts into Telangana. The locusts, which are coming from the Gulf countries and have already covered Pakistan and North India, have currently entered Maharashtra.
If the winds force them, they could enter Telangana. The Government is praying to the Wind Gods to ensure that the winds do not drive them into our state. The officials are confident that even if the locusts enter Telangana, the damage would not be considerable as the harvesting of the crops has already been done and currently there are no major standing crops. So, the loss to the agriculture would be minimal. However, in the absence of crops, they might attack the vegetation in the urban dwellings as they have done in cities like Jaipur in Rajasthan. But, in any case, the officials are prepared for the worst.
The government has already held high level meetings on the issue of locust attack. They are storing adequate quantities of pesticides like Malathion and are eve planning to use drones to spray Malathion on the crops. The biggest worry is that the locusts eat up almost 24000 kg of foliage in one day. This would leave the vegetation denuded and completely damaged.
