Why is the TRS unhappy with Munugode outcome?

Despite a victory in Munugode, the TRS top leadership is reportedly unhappy. It is shocked that as against its expectation that the victory margin would be beyond 30000, the fight has been quite close in most mandals of Munugode constituency. In fact, though it was finally defeated, the BJP gave a tough fight in many mandals.

The TRS top leadership is alarmed at the growth of the BJP in the rural areas. The BJP was hitherto considered an urban party with a base in some cities only. In fact, it had always won from Hyderabad only. But post 2019, it has now won in rural constituencies like Dubbak and Huzurabad. Similarly, it has got considerable votes in Munugode.

The BJP got just around 10000 votes and had lost its security deposit in 2018 in Munugode. But this time around, it managed to get 87000 votes. The TRS leadership is said to be unhappy that despite deploying over 80 MLAs, MLCs, several ministers and even MPs, the party could win only by 10000 votes.

Sources say that the TRS bosses are unhappy that the BJP is able to increase its reach in rural areas too. It has done the same in Huzurabad and Dubbak. The cause for concern is that the BJP has now firmly established itself as the No 2 and that this could further weaken the Congress Party. If the BJP becomes the sole opposition, its votes could increase further. This could mean that it would be a formidable rival in 2023 unlike in 2018, when it was reduced to being a marginal player.
