Why No Politician Is Visiting Universities?
By: Tupaki Desk | 2 March 2021 3:40 AM GMTThough Graduate Constituency MLC election campaign is in full swing, there aren't many visitors to the universities seeking votes. Unlike all earlier elections, where the universities and the students played a key role in deciding the fortunes of the candidates, this time the universities are largely silent.
The ruling TRS has been completely avoiding the universities. Osmania University, Kakatiya University, Nalgonda Mahatma Gandhi University, Palamuru University are located in the districts that are going to polls. They have a large pool of graduate voters. But, the TRS leaders are not visiting these universities to seek votes. The Congress has some active units in the universities, but even the Congress leaders are not visiting the universities for some strange reason. The BJP is working on the Universities through its student wing, the ABVP. The ABVP has also played a key role in recruiting voters in universities.
Interestingly, KCR has visited the Osmania University, the hotbed of Telangana agitation, only once in the last seven years. Fearing strong protests from the students, he has not gone to the university. The only time he went was when President Pranab Mukherjee came to the university. Fearing protests, the security officials suggested that KCR should not make a speech in the university. Since then, he has avoided the university like a plague.
