Why TRS Is Taking Graduate MLC Elections So Seriously?
By: Tupaki Desk | 2 March 2021 3:38 AM GMTNormally, MLC elections are colourless affairs. The results of the local body or MLA vote-based seats are foregone conclusions as the ruling party always has an edge. The Teachers' Constituency elections are also a tame affair as the political parties do not play a role and the unions fight it out.
But, this time around, the Graduate Constituency elections have become a hot affair. The political parties are straining their every nerve to get votes. The elections have become a prestige issue for all the key political parties. The BJP, which has performed very well in Dubbak and the GHMC elections, wants to continue its winning streak, while the TRS wants to salvage some lost prestige. If the party loses these two graduate MLC seats, the party would be in a deep crisis and KCR's leadership would be seriously questioned. Hence, the TRS has pitted all its MLAs in the battle field.
The party MLAs are now meeting different groups, including religious heads to convince them to ensure a TRS victory. Small meetings with influential people are being held in hotels and even religious places. The TRS leaders are reportedly offering sops and giving assurances galore to these leaders. Some MLAs, who are otherwise inactive, too are being seen going round places, meeting people and convincing them to support the TRS. The problem for them is that their future too is linked to the MLC election results. Hence they are sweating it out like never before.
