Why TRS ministers, Kavitha give farmers protests a miss?

Is the BRS really serious about the farmers' protest? The party has called for refunding Rs 150 crore spent by the state government to construct harvesting areas near the crops. Protesting against the non-payment, it called for state-wide farmers' protests against the Central government. In fact, key leaders like Kavitha Kalvakuntla have exhorted the party workers to join the protests in a big way.

However, when the protests began, no minister was found at the protest site. In fact, Kavitha, who repeatedly called for protests, was nowhere to be seen. Senior leaders like Harish Rao and KTR too were conspicuous by their absence. Several other cabinet ministers and senior party functionaries were not to be seen anywhere. It was left to grassroots level workers to stage protests.

The party cadres are beginning to wonder if all this is a mere theatric. They are wondering why the TRS did not raise the issue in Parliament during the just concluded session. The party MPs, including senior leader KK were deafeningly silent and did not speak a word about it in the Lok Sabha.

The party cadre was also left wondering if the ministers and key leaders kept a low profile deliberately in view of the spate of the IT, ED and CBI raids on the TRS leaders. Of late, KCR's daughter Kavitha was questioned by the CBI, while IT sleuths raided the offices and premises of MPs like Nama Nageswara Rao and Ch Malla Reddy. As a result, the protests have ended up as a mere eyewash.
