One prominent Congress leader, who was absent during Sonia Gandhi's recent meeting with the 23 leaders who demanded reforms in the party functioning, was Kapil Sibal. Known for his strong and powerful arguments, Kapil Sibal was one of the biggest supporter for reforms in the party. He wanted the party to be revamped and the uncertainty over leadership should end.
So, when the meeting of the dissidents with Sonia Gandhi was scheduled, Kapil Sibal was simply not there. Sources in the know say that there was a design behind his absence. Rumour mill has it that Priyanka Gandhi removed his name from the list of invitees. In fact, he reportedly asked for the list of the people who would attend and cut out Kapil Sibal's name from the list.
On knowing this, Kapil Sibal had drawn a tour programme to Dubai. He left for Dubai on the same day when the dissidents were meeting Sonia Gandhi. The dissidents are now touting that Kapil Sibal could not cancel his tour as it was fixed months in advance. This is just an alibi, say those in the know.
