Why was Rajasthan governor changed in such a haste. Though former UP CM and Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh's tenure was not over, he was removed and UP senior hand Kalraj Mishra was brought in his place.
Sources in the know say that Kalyan Singh, who was one of those charged during the Babri demolition case, may soon be chargesheeted and could be questioned by the legal authorities. If he continues to be a governor even after being chargesheeted, it would give the opposition a stick to beat the BJP. Also, there could be problems in his prosecution given his constitutional position. So, the BJP top leadership felt that Kalyan Singh should be replaced to avoid embarrassment on both the counts.
Kalyan Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh at the time of the Babri demolition and has given an undertaking to the Centre and the Supreme Court that he would not allow the demolition of the disputed structure. So, the court has refused to remove his name from the chargesheet. So, the BJP leadership felt that he should be relieved from the gubernatorial post quickly to avoid complications.
